Cyclone Murasu unlikely to impact West Bengal, says IMD

The severe cyclonic storm is expected to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the severe cyclonic storm Murasu is unlikely to have any effect on West Bengal. According to ThePrint, the storm is expected to make landfall near Ongole in Andhra Pradesh on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

At the time of landfall, the storm is likely to have wind speeds of 100 to 110 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph. The IMD is keeping a close watch on the movement of the weather system, but there is no weather warning for West Bengal in connection with the cyclone.

Light rain or thundershowers are expected in several south Bengal districts, including Kolkata, until Wednesday morning. Light rain is also likely in the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong until Wednesday morning.

Hindustan Times reported that the storm will move from Andhra Pradesh towards Telangana and then towards Maharashtra, keeping it far from West Bengal. Meteorologists noted that while the cyclone may not bring heavy rain, moisture entering the atmosphere could prevent nighttime temperatures from dropping in the state.

There is no warning for fisherfolk venturing into the Bay of Bengal along the West Bengal coast. However, the IMD has advised them against venturing toward the northwest Bay of Bengal until November 4.
