Seven fishermen rescued in Nellore as Cyclone Murasu approaches

District officials and local fishermen saved the group after their boat engine failed near Juvvaladinne village on Monday morning.

Officials in SPSR Nellore district rescued seven fishermen on Monday morning after their boat experienced an engine failure near Juvvaladinne village in the Kavali constituency, according to The Hindu.

The fishermen had been advised against going to sea due to Cyclone Murasu. District Collector Himanshu Shukla said the group noticed changing sea conditions while off the Nellore coast and tried to head back to the harbour, but their engine broke down during the journey.

The vessel's anchor snapped, causing it to drift towards Patakadapalem village in Bogole mandal because of strong waves. Surveillance staff at the harbour spotted the situation and alerted the authorities.

Fisheries Department officials and the Marine Police conducted the rescue with help from local fishermen. Although high waves made the initial approach difficult, the team successfully brought the boat to the shore at Patakadapalem.

District Collector Himanshu Shukla commended the Marine Police, Fisheries Department, surveillance staff, and local fishermen for their efforts. He advised fishermen to follow official instructions and remain vigilant during bad weather.

The cyclone system has intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm and is expected to cross the south Andhra coast between 11.30 p.m. on November 2 and 4 a.m. on November 3.
