BMC removes Dia Mirza Diwali video after BJP leader objects

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation deleted an eco-friendly Diwali clip by actor Dia Mirza while keeping other celebrity campaign videos online.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) removed a video message by actor Dia Mirza from its social media accounts on Sunday, November 1, 2026. According to The Hindu, the clip featured Mirza urging the public to prevent air and noise pollution during Diwali.

The removal followed an objection from BJP Mumbai chief Ameet Satam. In a post on X tagging the civic body, Satam stated that people do not require instructions on Diwali celebrations from Mirza, noting that their traditions are deeply connected to their culture.

While Mirza's video was taken down, the BMC has kept other campaign videos on its X and Instagram pages. These include clips featuring cricketer Ajinkya Rahane and actors Madhuri Dixit and Nishigandha Wad.

The civic body is led by Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide. Although the video was deleted within hours of Satam's comment, civic officials did not provide a comment on the matter when contacted.
