BMC removes Dia Mirza video after BJP leader's objection
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation deleted an anti-pollution campaign clip featuring the actress following criticism from Mumbai BJP President Ameet Satam.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) removed a social media video featuring actress Dia Mirza on Sunday after Mumbai BJP President Ameet Satam criticised the campaign. According to reports by Moneycontrol and Deccan Chronicle, the video was part of an initiative urging residents to avoid noise and air pollution during Diwali.
Satam expressed his disapproval on X, stating that the city's traditions are deeply embedded in its culture and that the public does not require instructions on celebrating the festival from the actress. The BMC has not provided an explanation for deleting the clip.
While the video featuring Mirza was taken down, other campaign videos featuring cricketer Ajinkya Rahane and actors Madhuri Dixit and Nishigandha Wad remain on the civic body's X and Instagram pages. The original post had noted that bursting firecrackers on footpaths, lanes, and public roads is prohibited per Bombay High Court directives.
Dia Mirza has previously used her platform to address environmental and civic matters in Mumbai, specifically air pollution. Civic officials were unavailable for comment regarding the removal of the video.
