Wayanad students protest against transfer of Meenangadi school principal
Students of Government Higher Secondary School, Meenangadi, are seeking the revocation of Shibi Krishnan's transfer following allegations regarding a recent study tour.
Students of Government Higher Secondary School, Meenangadi, in Wayanad, staged a protest on Monday, November 2, 2026, seeking the revocation of the transfer of their principal, Shibi Krishnan. According to The Hindu, the Higher Education department transferred Krishnan to Government Higher Secondary School, Vaduvanchal, following an inquiry into a recent study tour.
The inquiry by the Regional Deputy Director of Education found that school authorities had not sought permission for the tour and that a three-day trip was extended to five days. The tour involved over 130 students travelling to Hyderabad in separate buses last week.
During the return journey, a section of students alleged that PTA president Hajis Ulladan had consumed alcohol, and videos of Ulladan in an intoxicated condition were shared with parents via social media. While rumours suggested Krishnan was also intoxicated, lab results of his blood samples showed no trace of alcohol.
Students who participated in the tour supported Krishnan, stating he had not consumed liquor and that Ulladan was moved to another vehicle when the complaint arose. When the group reached the school, angry parents and political activists blocked Krishnan at the gate, requiring police to escort him to safety.
Officials of the school management committee told the media on Monday that Krishnan, a leader of the Kerala School Teachers’ Association, was framed for political reasons. The officials claimed that although the school authorities had sought mandatory permission from higher authorities, there was no response to the request.
