Supreme Court allows green crackers in Delhi-NCR for two days

Residents can burst green firecrackers on November 7 and 8, 2026, during specific time slots under strict restrictions.

The Supreme Court has permitted the use of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR on November 7 and 8, 2026, according to reports by Mint, India Today and The Tribune. A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale set specific time windows for bursting crackers between 6 am and 7 am, and again from 8 pm to 10 pm.

The court ordered that no fireworks be used within 300 metres of silence zones, old-age homes, nursing homes, hospitals, primary or district health centres. Educational institutions will also be designated as 'No-Cracker Zones'.

The ruling prohibits any firecrackers containing barium or those not approved as green crackers by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI). Only manufacturers with valid certification are permitted to produce these crackers. Additionally, the manufacture and sale of firecracker garlands or those joined in series, known as 'ladis', are banned.

Authorities have been instructed to prevent the sale and use of conventional and illegal firecrackers across the region. The bench noted that a complete ban on firecrackers will be restored starting November 9, 2026.

During the proceedings, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati informed the bench that the Delhi government has prepared an action plan for the pollution season. This includes curbs on construction, restrictions on older vehicles, and staggered office timings.
