Fire breaks out in multi-storey building behind Kolkata's Writers' Buildings

At least 10 fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze at the Lions Range building on Sunday night.

A fire broke out late on Sunday night in the Lions Range building, a multi-storey structure located behind the Writers' Buildings in central Kolkata, according to reports by ThePrint and Outlook.

The blaze started on the fourth floor of the building, which houses offices for several companies. Local residents alerted the fire brigade after seeing flames and heavy black smoke coming from the upper levels.

At least 10 fire engines were sent to the site to manage the situation. While the fire has been brought under control and prevented from spreading, officials said a cooling process is still being carried out in the affected area.

No injuries or deaths have been reported in connection with the incident. The proximity of the building to the Writers' Buildings, the former state secretariat of the West Bengal government, caused panic in the vicinity.

Authorities have not yet determined what started the fire or how it spread. Fire brigade personnel are currently investigating the incident to establish the cause.
