Fishermen secure 400 boats in Kothapatnam as Cyclone Murasu approaches
Coastal residents in Andhra Pradesh prepare for high tides and potential flooding as emergency teams arrive in the village.
Fishermen in Kothapatnam, located about 18 km from Ongole, moved nearly 400 boats ashore on Monday, November 2, 2026, to prepare for Cyclone Murasu, according to The Hindu.
The community spent almost the entire day securing the vessels with ropes to protect them from waves and strong winds.
While the State government provided cyclone shelters, most residents remained in their homes, though families in poorly maintained houses began moving to relief centres around 7 p.m.
Special Officer for Kothapatnam T. Narayana stated that seven pregnant women were moved to Ongole as a safety measure.
Narayana noted that Kothapatnam is vulnerable to flooding because it is situated downstream of several canals that carry rainwater from surrounding areas.
An NDRF team has reached the village to help with emergency operations, while police personnel are making announcements to alert the public.
