The Odisha government has announced a compensation and recovery package for various groups affected by Cyclone Arnab, according to Urban Acres. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the measures following a high-level review meeting at the Special Relief Commissioner’s office on Sunday evening.
Affected families will receive 50 kg of rice and ₹2,500 as ex-gratia. Those whose homes were submerged for over two days or completely destroyed will get an extra ₹2,500 for utensils and ₹2,500 for clothing. For houses fully or severely damaged, the state will provide ₹1.2 lakh in plain areas and ₹1.3 lakh in hilly regions.
Farmers with crop losses of at least 33 per cent can access input subsidies for up to two hectares. Rates vary from ₹8,500 per hectare in non-irrigated areas to ₹22,500 for perennial crops. Additionally, ₹18,000 per hectare will be provided to farmers for removing silt or sand from land.
The package includes compensation for livestock, such as ₹37,500 for the death of a milch cow or buffalo. Fish farmers can receive up to ₹1,12,500 per hectare, while small businesses and traders may access loans of up to ₹12 lakh.
The Chief Minister has instructed the Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation to prioritise repairing lift irrigation points before the rabi season. Teams previously deployed for Cyclone Murasu will stay at their current locations.
