Former Odisha Jail DG seeks anticipatory bail over harassment allegations

Sushant Kumar Nath and associate Kuldeep Rath approached the Orissa High Court following a criminal case registered at Choudwar police station.

Former Odisha Jail Director General (DG) Sushant Kumar Nath and his associate Kuldeep Rath have approached the Orissa High Court for anticipatory bail, according to Pragativadi.

The legal move follows a criminal case registered at the Choudwar police station after a complaint was filed on October 31 by former female jailor Santoshini Dash.

The complainant alleged that Rath, acting for the former Jail DG, invited her to a private dinner or hotel meeting. She claimed that after refusing, she faced professional retaliation, including suspension, salary suspension, and threats.

The Choudwar police registered a case under Sections 75(2), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The state government removed Nath, a 1993 batch IPS officer, from his position as Jail DG on November 1 and reassigned him as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Department.

Police investigations are ongoing, and the allegations have not been legally proven. Statements from both parties are pending.
