Kumaraswamy questions delay in SIT formation over sting operation row
The Union Minister alleged the Karnataka government is avoiding an investigation despite directions from the High Court.
Union Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Monday questioned Karnataka Cabinet Minister Priyank Kharge regarding the delay in forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe an alleged sting operation. According to ANI, Kumaraswamy alleged the state government is avoiding the investigation despite directions from the High Court.
Speaking at a press conference, Kumaraswamy asked why the SIT had not been constituted if a prima facie case exists. He claimed that while the High Court gave directions for the SIT and named police officers, the government sought shelter in the Supreme Court to avoid forming the team.
The Union Minister also disputed police claims regarding the arrest of Nitesh Kumar. He stated that Kumar was arrested from Indirapuram in Ghaziabad on October 23, rather than from a Kumaraswamy residence.
Kumaraswamy denied allegations from Priyank Kharge that he was using central agencies in Delhi. He also accused Congress leaders of trying to divert attention from the issue and suggested an investigation into events dating back to 2011.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said on Sunday that the investigation into the sting operation controversy, registered at the CCB Police Station, has progressed. The Commissioner stated that Ritesh Pandey was arrested in New Delhi in relation to the case.
