Honda is not leaving Karnataka, says Industries Minister MB Patil
The minister dismissed claims by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy that the motorcycle manufacturer was pulling out of the state.
Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil on November 1 dismissed claims by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy that Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India was planning to move out of Karnataka. According to reports from The Hindu and Moneycontrol, Patil described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
The minister stated that Honda has been manufacturing two-wheelers at its Narasapura facility in Kolar district since 2013. The company was allotted 135 acres of land in phases starting in 2011 and currently produces 10,000 vehicles a day, employing more than 7,800 people.
Patil noted that the company also maintains a 35-acre distribution and spare-parts warehouse at Adinarayana Hosahalli in Doddaballapura taluk to serve the southern region. He added that the state government has had no lapses in its dealings with the manufacturer and that the company has not expressed dissatisfaction.
The minister said Honda intends to expand into electric two-wheeler manufacturing and plans to start production at the Narasapura campus in the coming days. This follows an agreement signed during the Global Investors Meet in Bengaluru in February 2025 for a Rs 600 crore electric unit.
Patil criticised Kumaraswamy for suggesting that industries are moving to Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Odisha. He argued that such remarks could damage the state's industrial growth and investment climate.
