Fire breaks out at Kolkata apartment complex near South City Mall

No injuries or casualties were reported after a blaze started on the 27th floor of a residential tower on Friday morning.

A fire occurred at a luxury apartment in the South City Complex, located near South City Mall in Kolkata, on Friday morning, according to The Indian Express.

The blaze started around 8 am on the 27th floor of Tower 3. Thick black smoke was seen coming from a window of one of the residences.

A police source stated that the fire alarm failed to function and that the incident occurred in a quarter used by domestic staff where cooking is not allowed. The cause of the fire remains unclear.

Seven fire engines were deployed to the scene to assist security personnel and residents who had attempted to extinguish the flames. All residents were safely evacuated to a secure location, and no one is trapped inside.

While the extent of the damage is not yet confirmed, officials said there have been no injuries or casualties. Damping-down operations are currently ongoing to check for residual flames.

The Fire Department will investigate the cause once the blaze is fully controlled. Police, senior Fire Department officials, and representatives from the power utility CESC are at the site.
