CoTU demands removal of Manipur Deputy CM over killing of two youths

The Kuki tribal organisation has called for Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho's resignation following the abduction and death of two Kuki men.

The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has demanded the immediate removal or resignation of Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, according to NENow. The Kuki tribal organisation accused Dikho of failing to ensure the safe release of two Kuki youths who were abducted and killed.

The victims, 21-year-old Thangginlun Chongloi and 20-year-old Paoginlal Hangsing, went missing from Taphou Kuki village on October 28. Joint security forces found their bodies, which were reportedly inside gunny bags, in a Senapati district banana plantation on November 1.

Kuki organisations and protesters have alleged that Naga militants were responsible for the abduction and killings. Deputy Chief Minister Dikho issued a statement condemning the killings as senseless acts of violence that cannot be justified by any grievance.

Dikho stated that the ongoing violence in Manipur is unacceptable and undermines peace efforts. He said the people of Manipur deserve to live together with dignity.

CoTU has refused to claim the bodies for burial until its demands are met. The organisation has requested that the investigation be handed to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and that all those responsible be arrested.

Other demands from the committee include moving the Taphou Kuki village under Kangpokpi district police jurisdiction and relocating the NSCN-IM's Huthrong Brigade camp from the Oklong area of Senapati district.
