Madhya Pradesh police officer killed by truck carrying illicit liquor
A police sub-inspector died after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to intercept a shipment of illegal alcohol in Dewas.
A police sub-inspector was killed by a truck transporting illegal liquor on the Harda-Nemawar Highway in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district late on Sunday night, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
Khategaon police station in-charge Dilip Puri was leading a team to seize the vehicle following intelligence reports. Police said the driver had parked the truck near a roadside hotel to drink water and attempted to flee the scene when Puri ordered him to get down.
Dewas district superintendent of police Aditya Mishra said the driver ran the truck over Puri, causing severe injuries. Although the officer was taken to a hospital, doctors were unable to save him.
The truck was carrying more than 1,800 litres of illegal liquor. Police stated the consignment was travelling from Timrani in Harda district to Gujarat.
Chief minister Mohan Yadav has ordered Upendra Kumar Jain, the special director general of police for the economic offence wing (EOW), to investigate the matter. Mr Jain said the driver, the transporter, and the source of the liquor have been identified.
Authorities have detained driver Gajendra, also known as Akku Rawat, transporter Karam Singh, and alleged kingpin Rahul Jaiswal for questioning. A case has been registered regarding the incident.
