Odisha adds 7,800 new 5G home broadband users in September

The state's total 5G Fixed Wireless Access subscribers reached 4.63 lakh during the month, according to a Trai report.

Odisha registered 7,871 new 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) or home broadband users in September, according to a recent report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).

The state's total number of 5G FWA subscribers rose to 4.63 lakh from 4.55 lakh in August, The Times of India reported.

Reliance Jio holds nearly 80 per cent of the market with 3.66 lakh subscribers, while Bharti Airtel has over 96,000 users in the segment.

The Trai report, titled ‘Highlights of Telecom Subscription Data’, also noted that 2.93 lakh mobile subscribers in Odisha requested to switch operators through mobile number portability during September.

Telecom analyst Prasanta Sahu said the growth shows rising demand for high-speed internet outside of traditional fibre networks. He stated that 5G FWA is a practical alternative where fibre is expensive or unavailable.

Industry expert Subhransu Pattnaik said operators are expanding FWA services in peripheral urban areas and Tier-II cities, noting strong adoption in Berhampur and Sambalpur.
