Cyclone Murasu to bring heavy rain to southern Odisha

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning for five southern districts as the cyclone moves towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.

Cyclone Murasu is expected to bring heavy rainfall to various parts of Odisha, particularly in the south, over the coming days, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri, predicting heavy to very heavy rain at certain locations on November 3 and 4.

While the cyclone is not predicted to make direct landfall in Odisha, its movement towards the south Andhra Pradesh coast is expected to cause widespread rain and thunderstorms.

The IMD stated that Murasu may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal on Monday and cross the coast between Nellore and Narasapur by the morning of November 3.

Wind speeds during landfall are anticipated to reach 100-110 kmph, with gusts hitting 120 kmph.

The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms in 16 districts. Rainfall is expected to decrease from November 5, with intensity reducing further on November 6 and 7.
