Cyclone Murasu to bring heavy rain to southern Odisha
The IMD has issued an orange warning for five southern districts as the system moves towards the south Andhra Pradesh coast.
Cyclone Murasu is expected to bring heavy rainfall to various parts of Odisha, particularly in the south, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle. While the cyclone is not predicted to make direct landfall in the state, its movement towards the south Andhra Pradesh coast is likely to cause widespread rain and thunderstorms.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri for November 3 and 4. These five districts may see heavy to very heavy rain at certain locations during those days.
The IMD expects Cyclone Murasu to become a severe cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal on Monday. It is projected to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narasapur by the morning of November 3, with wind speeds reaching 100-110 kmph and gusts up to 120 kmph.
On Monday, southern Odisha may receive light to moderate rain, though Ganjam and Gajapati could see 7 cm to 12 cm of rain in isolated areas. A yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms has been issued for 16 districts.
Rainfall is expected to continue on November 4 in Nuapada, Nayagarh, Puri, Khordha, Bolangir, and Bargarh, alongside the districts under the orange warning. Rainfall activity should decrease from November 5, with intensity reducing further on November 6 and 7.
