Bengaluru police issue safety guidelines for Deepavali celebrations
Residents are advised to use certified green crackers and follow the permitted 8 pm to 10 pm window during the festival.
The Bengaluru police have released safety guidelines for residents ahead of Deepavali celebrations. According to Urban Acres, the police have instructed citizens to use certified green crackers and adhere to the Supreme Court-prescribed timing of 8 pm to 10 pm.
The advisory states that fireworks should not be used near sensitive locations, including medical facilities, fuel stations, places of worship, childcare centres, and old-age homes. People are also told to avoid bursting crackers on main roads, in crowded areas, or near parked vehicles.
To ensure authenticity, the police have advised residents to scan the QR code on green cracker packaging. They have warned against purchasing fireworks from unauthorised shops and requested citizens to report illegal sales to the nearest station or by calling 112.
Safety measures for handling fireworks include wearing gloves and protective eyewear, and keeping sand, water, or fire extinguishers nearby. The police have also advised people to avoid wearing synthetic, nylon, or polyester clothing while bursting crackers.
Parents are told to supervise children and not allow them to light fireworks alone. Residents are encouraged to be considerate of animals, students, senior citizens, and those with illnesses who may be affected by loud noises.
In the event of an accident, the police said people should contact emergency numbers 112 or 108 immediately. Residents are also asked to clean public roads, grounds, and areas outside their homes once celebrations conclude.
