Tamil Nadu bus owners launch Roamie booking platform
The new platform aims to lower commission costs for operators and reduce ticket prices for passengers across the state.
Several omni bus owners’ associations in Tamil Nadu launched an online ticket booking platform called ‘Roamie’ on Sunday, according to The New Indian Express.
The platform, which includes a website and a mobile application, is currently used by over 100 state-based operators managing approximately 1,000 buses.
Passengers can compare different bus types, seat facilities, routes, departure times, and fares on the platform. Operators can use a single interface to handle reservations, seat availability, schedules, and routes.
The operators stated that the platform is integrated with the union government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce initiative. They said lower commission costs could allow them to provide tickets at more reasonable prices.
The service is expected to assist smaller operators, especially in western Tamil Nadu and Coimbatore, in reaching more passengers. More than 6,000 omni buses serve over 2.5 lakh passengers daily across Tamil Nadu.
The launch took place at Koyambedu in Chennai and was attended by office-bearers from the Tamil Nadu Omni Bus Owners Association, All Omni Bus Owners Association, All Omni Bus Owners and Operators Association, and the Coimbatore Omni Bus Owners Association.
