Students in Tumakuru set cultural world record with dance performance

A group of 1,571 students from across Karnataka formed a human map to achieve an Indian Book of Records certification.

A total of 1,571 students from across Karnataka gathered at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium in Tumakuru on October 18, 2026, to set a world record, according to The Tribune and ANI. The Kalaalaya Cultural and Charitable Trust achieved the feat through a performance involving vocal music and 10 different dance forms within a human formation of the Karnataka map.

The performance lasted 5 minutes and 13 seconds. The dance styles included Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Yakshagana, Peacock Dance, Parda Aata, Kamsaale, Nandikolu, Kathak, Mohiniyattam, and Freestyle Dance. The Indian Book of Records certified the achievement under a title regarding maximum participants performing multiple dance forms and vocal music consecutively in a map outline formation.

Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner Subha Kalyan, I.A.S., said the event showed how cultural activities can help students develop confidence and teamwork. She noted that such platforms allow young people to respect artistic traditions while learning discipline and shared responsibility.

Deputy Chief Minister Gangadharaiah Parameshwara praised the students and the trust for using the arts to represent the state's spirit. He said the initiative encouraged youth to take pride in their heritage.

Dr. Pooja Ranjith Kumar, Founder Director of the Kalaalaya Cultural and Charitable Trust, said the project aimed to unite students through art. She noted that the map outline served as the visual link between the various musical and dance elements.
