Delhi-NCR residents find non-BS VI vehicle entry enforcement poor
A survey of 18,243 residents shows 57 per cent rate the enforcement of vehicle restrictions as poor or very poor.
Around 57 per cent of Delhi-NCR residents rated the enforcement of restrictions on non-BS VI vehicle entry into the national capital as "poor" or "very poor", according to a survey by LocalCircles reported by The Federal.
The survey, which analysed 18,243 responses from Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad, cited inadequate planning, traffic congestion and lack of advance communication as reasons for the low ratings.
The restrictions came into force on November 1 under the Delhi government's Winter Action Plan, barring petrol and diesel vehicles registered outside the capital that do not comply with BS-VI emission standards until January 31, 2027.
The curbs cover BS-III and BS-IV private cars and commercial vehicles, while CNG, electric and essential-service vehicles are exempt. Transport department estimates suggest more than 10 lakh vehicles from Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad could be affected.
The rollout triggered long traffic queues, including a five to six hour congestion on the NH-48 stretch near the Sirhaul toll plaza on Sunday. Traffic snarls were also reported on Monday at the DND Flyway, Chilla border, Yamuna Bridge, Sarai Kale Khan and the Outer Ring Road.
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared that 14,930 vehicles were checked on the first day, with 1,539 turned back. Total penalties imposed on the first day reached Rs 68.4 lakh, including Rs 56.6 lakh for invalid Pollution Under Control certificates.
