National Security Adviser Ajit Doval meets Vietnam President To Lam

The two-day official visit to Hanoi included discussions on deepening bilateral defence and security cooperation.

National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval met Vietnam President To Lam in Hanoi during a two-day official visit on November 1-2, according to The Hindu. Doval briefed the President, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on the outcomes of his discussions with senior Vietnamese leaders.

The Indian Embassy in Hanoi stated that Doval conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked President To Lam for his support in strengthening the India-Vietnam Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The meeting also recalled the President's State visit to India in May.

Doval met Vietnam's Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang to discuss cooperation in maritime, cyber, economic, and law enforcement security. The two sides agreed to strengthen capacity building in these areas.

During the visit, Doval also met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang. The leaders agreed to expand cooperation through joint military exercises, regular dialogues, and exchange programmes between their armed forces.

Doval met Foreign Affairs Minister Le Hoai Trung to discuss ways to commemorate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations in 2027. The embassy noted that the anniversary would be marked in the spirit of the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit provided an opportunity to review progress in bilateral cooperation. India and Vietnam previously set a target to achieve $25 billion in annual bilateral trade by 2030.
