Assam and Arunachal Pradesh hold talks to resolve interstate boundary issues
The Regional Committee meeting in Roing focused on the dispute between Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley and Assam's Tinsukia district.
The governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam held a Regional Committee meeting on Monday to discuss longstanding interstate boundary issues, according to The Pioneer.
The meeting took place in the Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh and focused on the dispute between that district and the adjoining Tinsukia district of Assam.
Arunachal Pradesh Regional Committee chairman Ojing Tasing and his Assam counterpart Atul Bora co-chaired the session. Both men are ministers in their respective states.
Tasing stated on X that the deliberations aimed to address boundary differences while safeguarding the rights and interests of communities in the adjoining areas.
The two states share an 804.1 km-long border, parts of which are disputed. The Namsai Declaration, signed on July 15, 2022, aimed to reduce disputed border villages from 123 to 86.
Arunachal Pradesh has previously claimed that forested tracts were unilaterally transferred to Assam during the reorganisation of northeastern states. The matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court.
