Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell retires from international cricket

The 38-year-old batsman announced his departure from the national side after being omitted from the upcoming T20 series against England.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, according to The Hindu. The 38-year-old decision comes after he was not selected for the upcoming Twenty20 series against England, where younger players were preferred.

Maxwell, who had previously retired from One Day International (ODI) cricket last year, stated on the Final Word podcast that his exit felt somewhat unavoidable. He noted that he had held several discussions with selectors regarding his future and that the team management had not pressured him, allowing the door to remain open for a period.

The veteran player leaves the international arena having played 130 T20Is, 149 ODIs, and 7 Tests. He is Australia's third-highest run-scorer in T20Is with 2,897 runs and is one of only two players to score five centuries in the format, alongside India's Rohit Sharma.

His career highlights include winning the 2015 and 2023 Cricket World Cups and the 2021 T20 World Cup. He is also noted for his unbeaten 201 against Afghanistan during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

While Maxwell has ended his international and first-class career with Victoria, he will continue to play in the Big Bash League for the Melbourne Renegades.
