Central University of Karnataka and NBCC partner for green campus project

A ₹1.21 crore research and development initiative aims to improve rainwater harvesting and biodiversity conservation at the Kalaburagi campus.

The Central University of Karnataka in Kalaburagi has started a ₹1.21 crore research and development project to improve its campus ecosystem, according to The Hindu.

Sponsored by National Buildings Construction Corporation (India) Limited (NBCC), the initiative focuses on watershed management, biodiversity conservation, and rainwater harvesting.

Vice-Chancellor Battu Satyanarayana began a plantation drive on Monday to increase the university's green cover and promote sustainable development.

The project, sanctioned in November 2024, involves the development of rainwater harvesting structures across nearly 60 acres of the campus.

Work includes desilting an existing open well, creating new surface water bodies for groundwater recharge, and installing drip irrigation for perennial plants.

Principal Investigator Channaveer will lead the project alongside co-investigators Tejaswi Lakkundi, Kavishankar Gawli, and S. Lingamurthy, under the supervision of the Vice-Chancellor.
