Central University of Karnataka Registrar R.R. Biradar told students to develop innovative ideas and acquire industry-relevant skills to succeed in the changing employment landscape. He was speaking at an expert session on building careers and innovation in Karnataka’s digital economy and data centre ecosystem, according to The Hindu.
The session was held at the university auditorium through a partnership between the university, the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), the university’s Incubation and Skill Development Centre, and the School of Computer Science.
Prof. Biradar said academic qualifications alone are no longer enough for a competitive job market. He advised students to complement their education with 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, communication, and innovative thinking.
The Registrar noted that the digital economy contributed approximately ₹31.64 lakh crore, or 11.7 per cent, of India’s gross domestic product (GDP), with a projected share of 20 per cent by 2030.
He also highlighted that India’s start-up ecosystem grew from around 500 in 2016 to more than 2.23 lakh recognised start-ups. He stated that the sector employs more than 23 lakh people and includes over 110 unicorns.
KDEM Cluster Head Venkatesh Deshpande delivered a lecture on career opportunities, while KDEM Kalaburagi Cluster Head Sujay Mudgal spoke about the state's start-up ecosystem.
