Omar Abdullah inaugurates Rs 189 lakh infrastructure works in Jammu
The projects include a new office block and a renovated reception hall at the Civil Secretariat following the Darbar Move.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated infrastructure development projects worth Rs 189 lakh at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu on Monday, according to the Daily Excelsior. The works aim to bolster office infrastructure and upgrade amenities for staff and the public after the traditional Darbar Move resumed.
The Chief Minister opened a newly built pre-fabricated office accommodation block, which was developed for an estimated Rs 158.09 lakh under the CAPEX budget. He also inaugurated a renovated Reception Hall at the Civil Secretariat entrance gate, completed at a cost of Rs 31.10 lakh under the Maintenance and Repairs (M&R) component.
The inauguration follows the reopening of government offices in Jammu after they closed in the summer capital, Srinagar, on October 30. The six-monthly movement of top offices between Srinagar and Jammu is an administrative practice that has existed for over 160 years.
During the visit, engineers briefed the Chief Minister on the projects and the infrastructure created. Abdullah inspected the new facilities and the arrangements intended to support the smooth operation of the offices.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, and Acting Chief Secretary Shailendra Kumar, among other officials. Abdullah received a guard of honour upon his arrival at the secretariat as the seat of governance began functioning in Jammu.
