Danish minister visits Mumbai to strengthen maritime and trade ties

Larsen & Toubro chairman S.N. Subrahmanyan has been appointed Denmark’s Honorary Consul in Mumbai during the official visit.

Denmark’s Minister for Business and Competitiveness, Martin Lidegaard, visited Mumbai on Monday, November 2, to bolster cooperation with Maharashtra in maritime infrastructure, green shipping, technology, trade and investment, according to The Hindu.

During the visit, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) chairman S.N. Subrahmanyan was appointed Denmark’s Honorary Consul in Mumbai.

Mr. Lidegaard met Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma to discuss Danish investments, the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and maritime infrastructure opportunities.

The Minister stated that Maharashtra is an important commercial partner for Denmark, noting that more than 60 Danish companies operate in the state across manufacturing, shipping, maritime technology and consumer goods.

Mr. Lidegaard said that Denmark and Maharashtra are two economies of roughly the same size with much to offer each other.

As part of the visit, Mr. Lidegaard toured APM Terminals Mumbai at Jawaharlal Nehru Port, which is operated by APM Terminals, part of the Danish Maersk Group.

The visit follows recent investments, including a $670 million announcement by biotechnology company Novonesis in September and a $35 million investment by Impact Fund Denmark in GreenCell Mobility in October.
