Dia Mirza is not a big leader, says Devendra Fadnavis

The Maharashtra Chief Minister dismissed the controversy regarding the BMC deleting an actor's video as a small issue.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday dismissed the controversy surrounding the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) deleting an anti-firecracker video by actor Dia Mirza as a small issue. He stated the matter was not at his level and suggested the actor is not a significant leader in India.

According to Rediff, the Bombay High Court took suo motu notice of the matter on Tuesday. The court expressed displeasure regarding the controversy and directed the civic body to re-upload the clip featuring Mirza.

The video, which was part of the BMC's eco-friendly Diwali campaign, was removed from social media following objections from Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam and comments from Mayor Ritu Tawde. While Mirza's video was deleted, other campaign clips featuring Madhuri Dixit, Nishigandha Wad, and Ajinkya Rahane remained on the BMC's X and Instagram pages.

Speaking to reporters in Pune, Fadnavis said he did not believe the High Court had reprimanded the BMC. He noted that because the case had not officially gone to the court, the judge might have only expressed an opinion.

The Chief Minister added that the decision to remove the video was within the discretion of the civic body. He said the authority to decide what to retain or remove on social media handles belongs to the owner of the account.

Fadnavis concluded by saying that while Mirza may be a good actress, the issue was beneath his attention and asked to be questioned on matters of his level.
