Rajasthan farmer combines agriculture with solar power for dual income

Kajodmal Jat grows maize, chillies and tomatoes beneath solar panels to increase earnings from his land in Kundanpura village.

A farmer in Kundanpura village, Rajasthan, is using a combination of agriculture and solar power to generate income from the same land, according to Business Today.

Kajodmal Jat has installed a 600-kW solar plant with panels positioned approximately 11 feet above the ground. He grows maize, green chillies and tomatoes under these panels.

The partial shade provided by the installation helps reduce exposure to intense sunlight and assists in retaining soil moisture. Jat previously grew traditional crops such as wheat and bajra.

The solar plant supplies electricity to the grid. Jat expects that his combined earnings from farming and solar power will exceed his previous agricultural income.
