Jharkhand farmer earns ₹20 lakh from guava cultivation using solar irrigation
Kaisar Ali used solar-powered pumps and drip technology to produce 20 tonnes of fruit in Khunti district.
A farmer in Khunti district, Jharkhand, has earned approximately ₹20 lakh from a guava orchard by using solar-powered irrigation and drip technology, according to Mathrubhumi.
Kaisar Ali manages an orchard of nearly three acres in Shilda Bada Toli village. He has planted around 5,000 Taiwan Pink guava plants, which yielded nearly 20 tonnes of fruit this year.
Ali obtained a solar-powered pump through the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS). While he initially used the equipment for vegetable farming, he later transitioned into growing guavas.
The solar-powered lift irrigation initiative is being implemented alongside the State Irrigation Department across 10 to 12 blocks in the state. These systems move water from ponds, rivers, and other sources to elevated fields via pipelines.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that integrating technology with traditional farming is necessary to assist farmers facing uncertain rainfall. The solar pumps also assist in lowering irrigation expenses.
The technology helps farmers reach difficult terrain and provides opportunities for horticultural crops in the elevated plateau regions of Jharkhand.
