Karnataka: KMF to reduce Nandini curd prices by ₹2 per litre

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said the Karnataka Milk Federation agreed to the price cut following his suggestion to the delegation.

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has agreed to reduce Nandini curd prices by ₹2 per litre, according to a report by Mint. Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced the development on Monday, 2 November, stating he had suggested the reduction to KMF office-bearers.

The price cut follows a recent hike where one-litre curd packs increased from ₹54 to ₹68 and 500-gram packs rose from ₹28 to ₹34. With the proposed ₹2 reduction, the one-litre pack is expected to cost ₹66.

The price revision comes after the Karnataka Cabinet approved an ₹8-per-litre increase in Nandini milk prices on 29 October. Of this increase, ₹7 is intended for dairy farmers and ₹1 for milk cooperatives to cover operational expenses.

Shivakumar defended the milk price revision, noting it would benefit 11 lakh farmer families. He said the increase would prevent milk from being diverted to neighbouring states, adding that about 10 lakh litres have started returning to the state.

The BJP women's wing staged a protest at Bengaluru's Freedom Park on Monday demanding a rollback of the price increases, with similar protests reported elsewhere in Karnataka.
