Madhya Pradesh to introduce ancient Indian knowledge in third-year college courses

The Department of Higher Education plans to incorporate traditional Indian knowledge into postgraduate syllabuses across various academic streams in the coming years.

The Department of Higher Education (DHE) in Madhya Pradesh is preparing to introduce third-year courses under the 'Bharatiya Gyan Parampara' (Ancient Indian Knowledge) initiative, according to the Free Press Journal.

Courses under this initiative have already been implemented in the first and second years of study. Sources in the department stated that chapters on the Ancient Indian Knowledge system will be added to postgraduate syllabuses in future years.

The first unit of every syllabus in any stream, including chemistry, geography, mathematics, political science, and economics, will focus entirely on Ancient Indian Knowledge. The objective is to familiarise students with India's ancient intellectual traditions.

A high-level committee led by Higher Education Minister Indar Singh Parmar is working to identify relevant topics. The state embraced the Ancient Indian Knowledge system under the National Education Policy in 2024-25.

Ram Vishvas Kushwaha of the Hindi Granth Academy said there are 21 main subjects and nine supplementary subjects under the initiative. He noted that saints from different sects, such as Kabir and Raskhan, could be included in the syllabus.

The Hindi Granth Academy is currently printing books related to the subject. Intellectuals, including professors and retired vice-chancellors, are providing suggestions to help prepare the courses.
