National Conference accuses Aga Ruhullah of political opportunism and betrayal
The party hit back at the Srinagar MP after he announced his resignation from the party and his parliamentary seat.
The National Conference (NC) on Tuesday accused Srinagar Lok Sabha MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi of hypocrisy, political opportunism, and self-obsession. According to ThePrint, the party launched the counterattack following Ruhullah's announcement that he was resigning from both the NC and his parliamentary seat.
Ruhullah announced his resignation during a rally in Budgam on Tuesday, which marked the 26th death anniversary of his father, Aga Syed Mehdi. The NC described his speech at the rally as a manifestation of his “mental and moral bankruptcy”.
The party alleged that Ruhullah used derogatory and unparliamentary language against the NC leadership. The NC further claimed that Ruhullah only decided to resign after being told to do so by the party president.
Questioning his political record, the NC noted that Ruhullah served as a minister in 2010 until a reshuffle and contested the 2014 elections on an NC ticket. The party challenged him to state what concrete initiatives he had taken in Parliament regarding the restoration of special status and statehood.
Regarding reservation issues, the NC said it had constituted a cabinet sub-committee to examine the matter, but alleged the file was stalled by authorities. The party questioned why Ruhullah directed criticism at the NC instead of the Centre or the Lieutenant Governor-led administration.
