IMD issues heavy rain alerts for several Telangana districts
The severe cyclonic storm Murasu is expected to bring thunderstorms and gusty winds to the state as it approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued alerts for heavy-to-very-heavy rainfall across multiple districts in Telangana as cyclonic storm Murasu approaches the south Andhra Pradesh coast, according to Telangana Today and Urban Acres.
The storm is forecast to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and cross the coast between Nellore and Narsapur by the morning of November 3. While the core of the storm is expected to hit Andhra Pradesh, its reach is predicted to bring rain and thunderstorms to Telangana starting November 1.
On Monday, the IMD placed several districts on high alert, warning of heavy-to-very-heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Nagarkurnool. Other districts including Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Wanaparthy are also expected to see heavy downpours.
For Wednesday, weather authorities warned that Nalgonda and Nagarkurnool could experience isolated extremely heavy rainfall. Suryapet, Mahabubnagar, and Wanaparthy may see heavy-to-very-heavy rain alongside lightning and gusty winds of 50–60 kmph.
In the capital region, the IMD Hyderabad forecast steady overcast conditions and intermittent light to moderate rain for Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Rangareddy. The system is expected to weaken into a depression on Wednesday, which may lead to a gradual easing of rainfall.
The IMD noted that the system could produce wind speeds of up to 120 kmph. Localised thunderstorm activity may continue after the heavier weather spell tapers off.
