Punjab: Agriculture minister Khudian visits family of slain activist in Mansa
The minister met with the family of Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was shot dead on October 13, at their residence on Monday.
Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian visited the residence of slain anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa on Monday evening. He was accompanied by Sardulgarh legislator Gurpreet Singh Banwali during the 45-minute visit, according to the Hindustan Times.
Khudian stated he visited to offer condolences for the death of Jhota, who was shot dead on October 13. The minister did not respond to media questions regarding the demands made by the Insaaf Committee, which has been protesting for three weeks.
In a video statement, the father of the deceased, Bhim Singh, said the minister discussed the Insaaf Committee's request for a meeting in Mansa. The committee seeks a discussion with the Vidhan Sabha Speaker, two senior cabinet ministers, and the chief secretary to address 14 points, including the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and state police chief Gaurav Yadav.
Bhim Singh noted that Khudian did not provide a schedule for such a meeting. The family is currently refusing to allow the autopsy or cremation of Jhota until their demands are met, and the body remains at the Mansa civil hospital mortuary.
Sources said Khudian informed the family that an AAP political panel might visit Mansa within 48 hours for high-level talks. The minister reportedly attempted to convince the family to permit the post-mortem before a planned protest at the Chief Minister's Sangrur residence on Thursday.
