INDIA Bloc leaders distance themselves from Neha Bora's remarks

Samajwadi Party and Uddhav Sena leaders rejected the student leader's comments regarding the Brahmanical system.

Members of the INDIA Bloc distanced themselves from left-wing student leader Neha Bora on Tuesday after she made remarks about the Brahmanical system. According to Times Now, the controversy arose following a video in which Bora criticised the poll body chief and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral roll.

Samajwadi Party leader Rajeev Rai, who represents the Ghosi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh, said that making such sweeping statements is not appropriate. Rai stated that there is no basis for such rhetoric and that generalisations about any caste, community, religion, or region should be avoided.

Rai also accused the BJP of using a strategy to divide people and suggested that the opposition should not fall into that trap. He described the kind of rhetoric being used as unacceptable in the current age.

Uddhav Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi called the assertions unfortunate. The former Rajya Sabha member said that extreme mindsets, whether from the Left or the Right, are damaging to the country. Chaturvedi, who identified as a Brahmin woman, questioned the use of derogatory language and expressed a desire to explain to Bora that not everything should be viewed through caste or religious lenses.

The BJP has targeted Bora over the video. Party spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused her of spreading Hindu hate and called her the poster girl for the anti-Hindu politics of Rahul Gandhi. Bhandari also linked her comments to a previous statement made by Gandhi regarding the safety of women in temples.
