Large python weighing 100 kg spotted in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor

The reptile escaped into the Chhoiya river after a rescue team failed to capture it near Jalalpur Chhoiya village.

A large Indian rock python, estimated to weigh around 100 kg, was seen near agricultural fields in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday evening, November 1, according to Moneycontrol.

Farmers working near Jalalpur Chhoiya village noticed the snake in some reeds and alerted the Forest Department. Regional Forest Officer Mahesh Chandra Gautam dispatched a team to secure the reptile, but it escaped and entered the Chhoiya river.

The current location of the snake is unknown and there is no confirmed report of it being caught. Forest officials noted that while the 100 kg weight is an estimate, it was not officially weighed.

Mahesh Chandra Gautam said that large rock pythons have been seen in various parts of Bijnor during the last two years. The Indian rock python is non-venomous and uses its muscular body to constrict prey.

Forest officials have advised local residents not to try and catch such snakes themselves and to contact the Forest Department if they are spotted.
