AAP misrepresenting Punjab stubble burning data, alleges Manjinder Singh Sirsa

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa claimed the Punjab government spent Rs 20-25 crore on advertisements to deny farm fire incidents.

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab of misrepresenting data regarding stubble burning in the state on Tuesday, according to The New Indian Express.

Sirsa alleged that while the Punjab government claims there have been no farm fire incidents this year, 271 FIRs have been registered against farmers across various districts.

He stated that there are more than 1,000 known stubble-burning cases and claimed the state spent between Rs 20-25 crore on advertisements to suggest no burning had occurred.

The minister further alleged that AAP leaders are misleading the public regarding the link between Punjab's stubble burning and pollution in Delhi. He noted that the average AQI in Delhi is approximately 10 per cent lower than the same period in previous years.

Sirsa also accused AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal of seeking revenge against Delhi because the party is uncomfortable with air quality improvements under the BJP government.
