Three AAP MLAs from Punjab join BJP in New Delhi
The move comes ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections after two legislators resigned from the ruling party's membership.
Three Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs from Punjab, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, and Chetan Singh Jauramajra, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at its New Delhi headquarters on Monday, November 2, 2026, according to The Hindu.
Chetan Singh Jauramajra, representing the Samana constituency, and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, from Sanour in Patiala district, said they were quitting because the party failed to fulfil promises made during the 2022 Assembly polls.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, a former IPS officer and MLA from Amritsar North, resigned as a legislator on Monday and sent his resignation to Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, as reported by Daily Excelsior.
Singh, who was suspended from AAP on June 29, 2025, stated his purpose is 'Punjab First' and expressed a desire to ensure clean politics in a state he described as trapped by drugs, extortion, gangsterism, and corruption.
AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal criticised the BJP for attempting to induct leaders facing serious allegations, stating that AAP has taken action against its own members over corruption.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Daljit Singh Cheema alleged that AAP leaders would find it difficult to answer questions about their silence over the alleged looting of Punjab ahead of the 2027 elections.
