Jan Suraaj and RJD seek disqualification of two Bihar MLCs
The political parties have petitioned the Council Chairman after two independent members joined the BJP shortly after their election.
The Jan Suraaj Party and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav have sought the disqualification of two Bihar MLCs, Bansidhar Brajwasi and Rahul Raj, for joining the BJP. The two members were elected as Independents from the Tirhut Graduates' and Saran Teachers' constituencies, respectively, in recent biennial elections.
According to reports from India Today and The New Indian Express, the MLCs joined the BJP less than 72 hours after being elected. A Jan Suraaj Party delegation submitted a petition to Council Chairman Ram Bachan Rai in Patna on Monday, including affidavits, video footage, and media reports.
Jan Suraaj Party leader Kishor Kumar Munna alleged the move violated Article 191 of the Constitution. Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition, stated the decision attracts disqualification provisions under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.
BJP spokespersons Kuntal Krishna and Manoj Sharma maintained that the MLCs had not joined the party but had merely extended their support to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar.
Rahul Raj stated he had taken the party membership again after previously quitting due to coalition compulsions. Jan Suraaj Party spokesperson Kumar Saurabh said the party would approach the Supreme Court if the chairman does not decide the matter within three months.
