Congress supports independent candidate against Hardeep Singh Puri in Madhya Pradesh

Independent candidate Rajkumar Lohani filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha by-election with the backing of the Congress party.

Independent candidate Rajkumar Lohani filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha by-election in Madhya Pradesh against the BJP candidate, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, according to Bhaskar English.

Lohani, a mobile accessories shop owner from Bhopal's Ghoda Nakkas area, submitted his papers to the returning officer at the Legislative Assembly. Congress MLA Hemant Katare acted as his proposer during the process.

The nomination was attended by Atif Aqeel, Abhijeet Shah, Surendra Singh Honey Baghel, and Congress spokesperson Vivek Tripathi. Other party MLAs were also present.

The Congress party has extended its support to Lohani because it lacks the number of MLAs required for victory. The BJP holds a strong position in the Legislative Assembly regarding the numbers needed.

The Congress is opposing Hardeep Singh Puri due to his name appearing in the controversy surrounding the Epstein files. The party is attempting to corner the BJP and the Central Government on this issue.
