BRS seeks extension of graduate voter registration deadline to December 6

The party requested the Election Commission to delay the deadline due to pending verifications and lack of awareness campaigns.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to push the November 6 deadline for graduate voter registration to December 6. According to Telangana Today, a BRS delegation led by deputy floor leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav submitted a representation to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Reddy on Monday.

The party is seeking measures to ensure eligible graduates can vote in the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduate MLC constituencies. The BRS cited issues including a large number of unverified applications, insufficient public outreach, and challenges regarding the attestation of educational documents.

Data provided by the party shows that out of 5.23 lakh Form 18 applications received by October 24, only 26,085 have been approved. The BRS stated that 4.96 lakh applications remain pending verification, noting that approved applications represent only 2.52 per cent of the 10.36 lakh graduates on the 2021 electoral rolls.

Srinivas Yadav told reporters that the ECI and the State government have not made sufficient arrangements. He claimed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are not actively participating in the enrolment drive and that there has been no effective awareness campaign.

The BRS requested that Gazetted Officers attest certificates without charge and that the Commission accept digital verification via DigiLocker or the National Academic Depository. They also asked for special enrolment camps and help desks.

The party further urged the Commission to allow applicants to fix minor documentation errors before rejection. They also demanded the weekly publication of constituency-wise data regarding applications and verifications.
