Tamil Nadu GST growth slows to 3 per cent in October
Opposition leaders criticised the TVK government over declining revenue and the alleged diversion of South Korean investments to Andhra Pradesh.
Tamil Nadu recorded a GST growth of 3 per cent in October, which is well below the national average of 22.9 per cent, according to figures cited by former state finance minister Thangam Thennarasu, Urban Acres reported.
Thennarasu noted that neighbouring states saw higher growth during the same month, with Kerala at 23 per cent, Andhra Pradesh at 24 per cent, Karnataka at 18 per cent, and Telangana at 14 per cent.
DMK president M K Stalin alleged that the TVK government is in "reverse gear" and claimed that Rs 1,614 crore in South Korean investments intended for the state moved to Andhra Pradesh due to negligence.
Stalin also alleged that Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state agency for attracting investments, has been neglected. He made these remarks while referring to Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s roadshow in Pudukkottai on Monday.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami echoed these concerns, stating that industrial investments are heading to Andhra Pradesh and that inflation in the state is higher than the national average.
Palaniswami questioned how the government would increase GST revenue without improving per capita income and enhancing purchasing power. The TVK government has not responded to these allegations.
