Tamil Nadu allows six daily shows for new Tamil films
Theatres across the state can now hold up to six screenings per day for one week following a film's release.
The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday announced that theatres across the state are permitted to host up to six screenings of newly released Tamil films every day. According to The Hindu, this permission applies for one week starting from the date of a film's release.
The new schedule allows shows to run from 6 am until 2.30 am the following day. This decision follows representations made to the government by various film producers' associations, including the Tamil Film Producers Council and the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association.
Under the previous rules, the state allowed five daily screenings for new Tamil films during their first seven days. The new order increases this limit to six shows, which will also apply on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and local festival days.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay issued the order, which will be implemented by amending the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957. The government intends to update these rules to formalise the revised screening limits.
The move comes after the TVK-led government assumed office and follows requests from industry groups to support the release of new films.
