Telangana Women’s Commission seeks police reports on illegal egg harvesting racket
The Commission has requested detailed updates from three police commissioners regarding the exploitation of vulnerable women by organised gangs.
The Telangana State Commission for Women has asked the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Medchal Malkajgiri Police Commissioners to provide reports on an illegal human egg collection racket. According to The Hindu, the Commission is investigating the exploitation of economically vulnerable women by organised gangs in Saroornagar and Begumpet.
In a letter dated November 1, the Commission directed the three police commissioners to submit a comprehensive action-taken report by Tuesday, November 3, 2026. This follows news regarding the arrest of gangs suspected of collecting human eggs from women in those areas.
The Commission expressed concern that organised gangs allegedly recruited women from Telangana and other states by offering money and exploiting financial hardships. These women were reportedly taken to undisclosed locations, given hormonal injections, and subjected to medical procedures for egg collection, which may risk their physical and reproductive health.
The Commission also flagged potential issues regarding illegal confinement, trafficking, and violations of the women's rights, dignity, and safety.
The police must now furnish details on registered cases and actions taken against the accused, agents, and other involved persons. They have also been asked to provide information on the number of women rescued, their current locations, and the medical or rehabilitation assistance provided to them.
Furthermore, the police were asked to share investigation details regarding the possible involvement of medical practitioners, fertility centres, and hospitals, alongside steps to identify other affected women.
