Pandey and Tyagi in contention for UP cricket coaching roles
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association may extend Gyanendra Pandey's mandate to white-ball cricket or appoint Sudeep Tyagi as a coach.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) is considering Gyanendra Pandey for the white-ball cricket coach position, according to a report by the Hindustan Times on Tuesday. Former India pacer Sudeep Tyagi has also emerged as a candidate for either a coaching or bowling coach role.
UPCA Secretary Prem Manohar Gupta said on Tuesday that Pandey can be considered for the white-ball post because the men's teams have performed well under his guidance this season. Pandey has been coaching the red-ball side, which has shown resilience during the current Ranji Trophy season.
Gupta stated that nothing has been finalised yet as Tyagi is also a candidate for the white-ball coach or bowling coach roles. The association is moving towards a split coaching model this season.
Tyagi, who made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2007 and was the country's leading wicket-taker that season, previously played for India in four ODIs and one T20I. He represented Chennai Super Kings in the 2009 IPL.
The UPCA will take a final decision on the appointments soon. The white-ball season is scheduled to begin with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches in Mumbai on November 14.
