Vaishnavi Adkar wins first WTA 250 level match in Chennai Open
India's top-ranked women's tennis player defeated Great Britain's Jodie Burrage in a round of 32 match.
India's number one women's tennis player Vaishnavi Adkar won her first WTA 250 level match against Great Britain's Jodie Burrage on Tuesday at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Chennai, according to The New Indian Express.
Adkar won the round of 32 match in 2 hours and 47 minutes. After a slow start, she secured the victory to move into the pre-quarterfinals.
Adkar said that the heavy balls and humidity made it a struggle to keep going for serves. She noted that she tried to put back an extra ball to keep pressure on Burrage, who was playing aggressively.
The player, who joined Rohan Bopanna’s Tennis Academy in Bengaluru months after a defeat against Donna Vekic last year, said she feels more confident and physically and mentally stronger.
In another result, 17-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi defeated Polish eighth seed Katarzyna Kawa 6-4, 2-6, 7-6. Revathi will face Weronika Falkowska in the round of 16.
