Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the temporary hike aims to offset rising fuel prices caused by the West Asia crisis.
Electricity tariffs in Assam will increase by up to 5 paise per unit for approximately three months, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday.
According to the Deccan Herald, Sarma stated the adjustment is a response to rising fuel prices driven by the West Asia conflict.
The Chief Minister said the state is currently purchasing power from various entities. He noted that when fuel prices rise, power rates also increase.
Sarma told reporters that the adjustment of 4–5 paise per unit will be minimal and temporary. He added that he has instructed that the hike should not exceed 5 paise.
The increased tariff will be rolled back after three months or once the situation normalises and stabilises.
